I have longed to start my very own blog for months, and here it is! I am so excited to post my inspirations and ideas for all things design. As I was gathering some articles and photos for this blog I came across a photo I took during the summer of 2005 in Manhattan. It is a photo on the corner of Mulberry and Prince in Nolita. This was my "hood" while living in New York with my husband and although our humble abode was insanely expensive and about the size of a walk in closet, it was all about the neighborhood to me. The feeling of Nolita was one of my favorites. I would call my best friend to meet me at Cafe Gitane and we would stroll around the neighborhood sipping our iced lattes (sigh). I miss that. I miss the fresh flowers billowing out on to the sidewalks littered with trash, the dollar bin vintage shop next door to pricey designer boutique. This light and dark contrast of Nolita and really all of Manhattan is what American fashion and design is made of. Marc Jacobs, Anna Sui and Betsey Johnson choose to live in New York for a reason and that is the daily originality they find on a simple street corner in this big city.
